Ok, so I’ve just returned from an evening out with some great friends and together we went to see the live production of Ben Hur at the O2 Arena in London. I first saw an advert for this back in March and I knew even then that the idea of seeing a live chariot race would be something to behold. Without hesitation I ordered a bunch of tickets.
The result, well, even if you find slow story lines a little dull, let me tell you that there is no way on earth you wouldn’t have gawped at the sheer skill, grandeur and spectacle that was the culmination of the show. The finale chariot race was quite possible one of the most amazing feats of choreography, stuntmanship, story and audacity I’ve seen in a stage show yet, and believe me, I’ve seen some of the worlds best shows already.
I salute those who had the imagination to come up with the movie in the first place, that inspired others to recreate the event so that some of us may see this with our own eyes.
I’m sure you’ve had this in the past where you got swayed by other peoples opinion and decided to NOT do something. Well aren’t you disrespecting your own intuition then?
Models of Reality again
One of the things I teach to my coaching clients is to respect other people opinion, but realise that that is their reality and model of the world, and it isn’t theirs. What people do far too often is either impose their model of reality onto others, or subscribe to other peoples model of reality before creating their own. It’s a case of shirking responsibility for your experiences in life so that if some experience didn’t meet your expectations, you can blame someone else’s opinion for it.
Always as much as you can, go and experience things first hand for yourself before you make or pass judgement on other peoples opinion of it, or subscribe to it. There is no greater learning than feeling the full emotional content of taking on board that zest for life, and making it your own, totally your own.
Another thing that Ben Hur Live got me thinking was that one must never underestimate the will and power of man in the world. When you sit down and believe that it’s impossible for you to do something, or you feel it is out of your boundary, just realise, there are people out there, who are constantly stretching the realms of possibility. Some of whom do this to inspire us and to will us along to do better.
Some of us get inspired, some of us don’t even understand it. Those who take those higher learnings, are those who go onto achieve greatness in life. Ben Hur will have inspired many of those in the audience tonight, but it will only be those who take positive action and drawn that energy to focus on something great, that will endure and create long lasting success, passion and potentially something legendary. Tonight’s show was legendary, born from the imagination of one man who spread his vision and story to others, such that they may help him to realise his dream, and through his dream, he helped them to fulfil theirs as well. This is the a demonstration of the power of imagination.
