Well it’s the end of day 1 of this training program called Platform Skills Intensive and I’m once again diving in and soaking myself into the change process and the skills and learnings I’m about to get throughout the course of the next 6 days.
This is one of the Christopher Howard training courses and I can say from firsthand experience and from hearing about other people’s opinions that this is certainly one of the best trainings on the market for learning to be exquisite presenting from a stage.
This isn’t any old presentation training like you might imagine. This is one that utilizes the highly respect science of NLP to create powerful presenting strategies that would knock the socks off any other presenter.
I’ve heard it myself from a lady here who is from Holland and has spent the last 15 years teaching presentations. She said that after she completed the training, she was ashamed that she had ever charged money for what she had previously taught. And this lady consulted for the likes of Shell and other large companies. Now that is saying something!
While I am attending I figured why don’t I blog about it so that other people can read about this and perhaps get inspired to want to take the course too!
overcoming fears
I’ve had a massive fear of standing in front of people and presenting for many years, however in the last 12 months, I’ve made so many unconscious changes to the way I behave and the perception I have of the world, that right now, I’m actually over this stage fright as they say.
What’s important to learn here is that anything, even the most frightful of things for you, can be overcome with the right help and the right application of techniques. The only real question you gotta ask yourself is whether you really want something bad enough that you will do anything to go learn the skills to get what you want.
When you want something bad enough, nothing will get in your way. If you are sitting there right now thinking that this is all just baloney, AND saying to yourself that you haven’t got the things you wanted, those things you wanted badly, then you gotta ask yourself, What did you want more than the thing you said you wanted, and how did you let it get in the way of your dreams?
Anyway, what I love about this training here is that they are starting from the bare bone basics. Teaching from the ground up with how to stand, how to control emotional states and go into something called “Expanded Awareness”, which I might add is the best technique in addressing large groups.
On top of these basic learnings, they start to layer over additional skills and I’ve been told that by the end of the week I won’t know what’s hit me. A lot of the work today was preparation work, however don’t underestimate it’s importance in the whole process.
More often than not, prep work is the foundation to success, so although it might be basic right now, laying a solid foundation is the best course of action, and besides, the more practice you get at something the better you get right!
Right, off to do some homeplay now, I’ll try to update as I go along the week. Over and out!
