It’s this time of year when people are rushing around last minute to get all their gifts for their loved ones and if you’ve left it to the last minute, think about this, how you do one thing, is how you do everything in life. Where else in life do you leave things till the last minute, and what is this costing you?
I was doing some food shopping a couple of days ago at a big name brand, and I’ll tell you, it was like a war zone. People were rushing around like headless chickens trying to get all they can, in order to fulfil some need they have in their lives. I’m all for giving thanks to the loved ones, but seeing the stress and aggravation on people’s faces really made me wonder if these people really realised what was going on in their lives.
This time of year should not be about stress or aggravation, so what are you doing that Is cause this in your life? Seriously, take stock and think about it for a second. If this is such a lovely wonderful and loving time, in what way are you not being the cause of your own world such that you’ve allowed external influences to make it a stressful time for you!
Anyways, as with most of you, and myself included, it is also a time to take stock on the year before, and think about the year ahead. I’ve had an incredible year and I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of this amazing experience.
There have been many, many positive learnings and even more exciting and adventurous experiences, which 12 months ago I would not have thought would be possible.
Some of the highlights of my year included seeing the Dalai Lama speak in Calgary, doing a desert photo shoot in California, Victorville, taking part in the billionaire bootcamp seminar in Fiji and taking a dip in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland.
These are all incredible experiences, and NONE of them were on my wish list 12 months ago. It just goes to show that life is as varied and exciting as you make it, and when opportunities come around, you should get both hands and hang onto them for an adventure that you cannot imagine.
I’ve lived life with a positive attitude and saying YES, to almost every opportunity that has come my way, and what and incredible time it’s been. I highly encourage you to say YES to things and see where your new decisions take you. I know it’s a bit clichéd, you’re probably imagining all those comedy scenes from YES MAN with Jim Carrey, but it works and if you have a habit of saying NO in your life, then you really have to go live it.
In another blog I mentioned that one of the lasting memories I’ve had from movies is that final scene from Titanic when Rose is looking over the photos of her life and it shows her living and incredible and adventurous life. Ask yourself this, when you are nearing the end of your life, do you want to look back at a life well lived or a life not worth living?
I know which one I’m choosing, and I know I have the choice too. One of life’s greatest pursuits is the pursuit of choice. No matter what area of life you are trying to improve, it’s always a matter of choice. Here is my one tip to end of this blog post, if you find that you are backed into a corner with no choice, take a moment to sit back and imagine, what would Eddie do in this situation? Ask yourself, what would happen if I did it, what would happen if I didn’t do it, what wouldn’t happen if I did it and then finally what wouldn’t happen if I didn’t do it.
If you can answer all of those questions honestly and truthfully with thought, then you’ve just created yourself multiple options and choice from nowhere!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Ps, don’t be a sucker, forget about New Years Resolutions, their purpose is to set you up for failure, if you are going to do something, then in the famous words of Nike, Just Do It.
