The comfort factor is probably one of the best dream killers I’ve ever known to exist. It works its way into your life quite easily and the next thing you know you’re sat in front of the TV watching X-Factor and then the re-runs of Strictly Come Dancing on the +1 channels!
I don’t think there is anything wrong with relaxing or chilling in front of the TV. In fact I love a good movie and night in. What I do want to establish though is that this level of comfort must be appreciated and chosen, rather than it being the unconscious norm.
That’s the dream killer, when comfort becomes unconscious and you don’t even realise it.
If you want to step up your game and improve things in your life, be that in business, relationships, health or whatever, you have to make big changes in order to make big differences. If you are stuck in comfort zone, you’ll find this even harder because it means you have to step OUT of comfort in order to move forward or change.
Change is often associated with pain, normally because that is the short term effect. If you need to get fit, the first few months back in the gym and painful aren’t they! If you need to make radical changes in your business, often you are met with great barriers which make it more difficult.
What we all need to do is learn to concentrate on the long term benefits as these will be the dreams and ambitions you deeply want to achieve, and by keeping an eye on them, you’ll forget about the short term pain and remember that there was a greater goal you are going for.
Stepping up your game also involves learning new things. Keeping an open mind and admitting your weaknesses is also part of stepping up because in order to achieve more, quite often you’ll have to enlist people to help you, and that’s where knowing what areas you need help in, will allow you to find and identify the right people.
So today I’m pushing the boundary, again, getting out of the comfort zone, into the action zone. Are you doing the same?
